The Manhasset Bay Protection Committee has
created a number of educational materials and can help you with
a number of activities for the Phase II NOI tasks 1 & 2. Below
is a list of the NOI's first 2 Minimum Control Measures and the
activities that the Committee promises to make available to your
municipality as we work through the Phase II regulation compliance
together.
Task 1: Public Education & Outreach
May occur at any point during the 5 year plan
Education Flyers: Proper Lawn/Garden Care,
Proper Disposal Hazardous Waste, Water Conservation… many others!
Media Campaign: Letters to the local papers
on Committee/Municipal activities
Library of Education Materials: The Committee
serves as a library to the member municipalities at all times. If
we do not have the educational materials on hand, they can be obtained
upon requests.
Display: A portable display can be developed
for municipalities to "sign-out" when needed
Speakers to community groups: Director will
be prepared (with reasonable notice) to give presentation to community
groups on water quality/watershed issues
Native Plants: Citizens will have access to
the Native Plant Garden at all times
Creation of Website: The website was created
for public and municipal education purposes.
Task 2: Public Involvement/Participation
May occur at any point during the 5 year plan
Establishment of Advisory Committee: The Manhasset
Bay Protection Committee has been established to serve the member
municipalities in many ways including advisory matters
Local Stormwater Contact: The Manhasset Bay
Protection Committee has been established to serve the member municipalities
in many ways including to act as a local storm-water contact
Public Access to documents and information:
Requests for this information from the public will be honored
Watershed Organizations: Each member municipality
is already part of the watershed organization: The Manhasset Bay
Protection Committee
Mailing List: The Committee will make available
to all members a complete mailing list of interested civic and private
groups
Storm-drain stenciling: Storm drain stencils
are available to any interested municipalities
Home Assessment Survey: The Committee created
a Home Assessment survey for homeowners to assess their home pollution
risks. Master copy is available to all municipalities.
Creation of Website: The website was created
for public and municipal education purposes.
