Description of the Position:

The Committee is a 14-member intergovernmental organization committed to improving water quality in Manhasset Bay. The Committee has completed a nonpoint-source pollution management plan and has received grants to implement recommendations. The Director reports to the Committee and will be responsible for executing projects, grant writing and administration, selecting and coordinating the work of consultants, and developing a public education and outreach plan.

Time Frame:

Expected to begin March, 2004 and continue Part-Time Position (approx. 19 hours per week).

Qualifications:

Knowledge of water quality and nonpoint source pollution issues; specifically those water quality problems affecting Long Island Sound embayments. Knowledge of federal, state and local agency and municipal structure and sources of existing water quality information a plus. Strong verbal, writing, organizational and administrative skills. Previous grant writing success.

 

Skills:

Knowledge of water quality and nonpoint source pollution issues and management techniques. Assemble information on Manhasset Bay's water quality problems; develop a public education program regarding ways to reduce stormwater runoff and nonpoint source pollution; keep records of and coordinate meetings including sub-committee meetings; supervise consultant activities and assure timely completion and reporting of project milestones; coordinate and supervise volunteers; organize public meetings including notice requirements; assure compliance with Grant requirements and keep accurate records of grant activities and expenditures; research grant opportunities and prepare grant applications; and facilitate communication and the flow of information and reports involved in the program, interact with Committee members, state, federal and local agency personal, civic organizations. Training and Experience:

1. Bachelor's degree, preferably in marine biology, ecology, planning, governmental policy, environmental engineering or in another applicable field.

and

2. At least one year of satisfactory experience working on an environmentally oriented project. Volunteer work will be considered towards experience requirement.

 

Salary: Up to $25-$40 hour commensurate with education and experience.
